71. Vishnu gets the conch and the disc

Verse 71

இருவென்று பூரணமே மைந்தாவென்று

எவ்வுயிரும் ரட்சித்து மிடுக்கந்தீர்த்தும்

திருவென்றும் பெயரிட்டு அழைத்து மாலைத்

திருஷ்டிக்கு மொளிவாகித் தீர்க்கம் பெற்று

உருவென்று தோணாம லுயிராய் நின்று

உத்தமனே யோகாதி யோகியாகித்

தருவென்று தருக்களையு மவருக் கீந்து

சங்கோடு சக்கரமுங் கொடுத்திட்டாளே

Translation:

Remain, son, the fully complete, saying so

Nurturing all the life forms solving their problems

Naming Maal as Thiru

Increasing in stature while remaining hidden to avoid attracting the evil eye

Remaining as the soul, not appearing as the explicit form

The good one, becoming the yogi of yogis

Granting him trees

She gave him the disc and the conch.

Commentary:

This verse is a continuation of the previous one on the emergence of Vishnu.  Shakti named him Thiru granted him all the trees for nourishing the world.  The tree mentioned here is the sushumna nadi.  The Siddhas usually refer to it as “Karu nelli maram” or the tree of black gooseberry.  She also gave him the conch and the disc, his emblems so that he can perform maintainance of the world.

முந்தைய பாடலின் தொடர்ச்சியான இப்பாடலில் சுப்பிரமணியர் விஷ்ணு எவ்வாறு சங்கு சக்கரங்களைப் பெற்றார் என்று கூறுகிறார்.  சக்தி அவரை மைந்தா என்று அழைத்து அவருக்குத் திரு என்று பெயரிட்டு உலகில் வாழும் உயிர்களின் உடலுள் இருந்து அவர்களைக் காக்குமாறு, யோகாதி யோகியாக இருக்குமாறு அவருக்குக் கட்டளையிடுகிறாள். உலகை ரட்சிக்க வேண்டி விஷ்ணுவுக்கு மரங்களைத் தந்து தனது தொழிலை அவர் புரிவதற்கு அவருக்கு சங்கையும் சக்கரத்தையும் அளிக்கிறாள். இங்கு மரம் என்பது சுழுமுனை நாடியைக் குறிக்கும்.  சித்தர்கள் இதை கருநெல்லி மரம் என்று அழைக்கின்றனர்.
