100. Subramanyar's specific instructions- a milestone verse

Verse 100

நாடியே லோகாதி லோகமெல்லாம்

நாதாக்கள் சாபமதால் நாசமாகித்

தேடியே திந்தாலுங் குருவைக் காணான்

சிந்தைமந்தி ரத்தைதெரி சிக்கமாட்டான்

ஓடியே அலையாதே மக்காள் மக்காள்

ஒரு நாளும் மறவாதே மவுனப் பேச்சைப்

பாடியே திரியாதே இந்த நூலைப்

பார்த்து மனக் கண்ணாலே பணிந்துகொள்ளே

Translation:

Seeking (it) in all the worlds

Destroyed due to the curse of the Natha-s,

Even if he roams searching for the guru, he will not see him

He will not see the mantra for the mind

People!  People!  Do not run around,

Do not forget the speech of silence, anyday,

Do not roam around singing this book,

See it with the mind’s eye, salute and accept it.

Commentary:

Many of us had a doubt about whether the contents of this book should be revealed to the public or not as it is Subramanyar’s esoteric teachings to his disciple Agatthiyar.  This verse seems to have cleared our doubt!

Subramanyar tells us about how this book should be handled.  He instructs people to first get rid of the curse of Nathas as otherwise one will not see the guru or learn the mantra.  He says that even if one roams all over the world there is no use if the curse is not annulled.  Thus the says that even though he has given us this knowledge one should proceed only under the guidance of a guru.  This book does not replace the guru. 

Then he gives us specific instructions:  do not roam around, stay calm and maintain silence, contemplate upon the knowledge that this book imparts- see it with the mind’s eye and accept it with humility and reverence. He says pointedly that the verses in this book are not for singing mindless, it is not like the prayer verses some of us sing without understanding the meaning.  The principles mentioned here must be understood thoroughly, contemplated upon and followed.

நம்மில் பலருக்கு ஒரு சந்தேகம் இதுவரை இருந்தது.  சுப்பிரமணியர் தனது பிரதான சீடரான அகத்தியருக்கு உபதேசித்த இந்த ரகசியங்களை உலகுக்கு வெளியிடலாமா கூடாதா என்பதுதான் அந்த சந்தேகம்.  இப்பாடலில் சுப்பிரமணியர் நமது சந்தேகத்தைத் தீர்த்துவைக்கிறார்.  அகத்தியருக்கான உபதேசமாக அமைந்த இந்த நூலில் சுப்பிரமணியர் மக்களைக் குறித்து இந்தப் பாடலைப் பாடியுள்ளார்.  மக்களே என்று அழைக்கும் அவர் முதலில் அவர்கள் நாதாக்களின் சாபத்தை நிவர்த்தி செய்துகொள்ள வேண்டும் என்கிறார்.  இல்லாவிட்டால் குருவை தரிசிப்பதோ மந்திரத்தை தெரிசிப்பதோ உச்சாடனம் செய்வதோ இயலாது என்கிறார் அவர்.     இதனால் இந்த புத்தகத்தில் அவர் பல ரகசியங்களைக் கூறியிருந்தாலும் ஒருவர் குருவின் மூலமாகத்தான் இவற்றை முயற்சிக்கவேண்டும் என்ற அவரது கருத்து தெளிவாகிறது. 

இதன் பிறகு அவர் நாம் செய்யவேண்டியவற்றை விவரமாகப் பட்டியலிடுகிறார்.  முதலில் ஒருவர் உலகம் முழுவதும் சுற்றித் திரிவதை நிறுத்த வேண்டும், மவுனத்தை மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டும், இப்புத்தகத்தில் உள்ள பாடல்களை பக்திப் பாடல்களைப் போல பாடித்திரியாமல் இதில் கொடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ள கருத்துக்களை மனதில் உணர்ந்து அவற்றைப் பணிவுடன் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு கடைப்பிடிக்கவேண்டும்.
